Choosing the Right Organic Baby Formula

January 7, 2010

When there is a new baby on the way mothers are faced with the question of whether or not to breast feed.  It’s very important to parents that their baby gets the best of the best.  So of course when it comes to organic baby formulas most parents will go the extra mile.  But since no organic baby formula is exactly the same it may take some experimenting before finding the right one for your baby.  To get you started here is some information on the top 3 organic baby formulas on the market today.

  • Similac Organic Baby Formula is made with DHA and ARA which promotes brain health.  These ingredients come from algae or soil fungus.  When you see these ingredients in non-organic products you should be aware that the extraction process of DHA and ARA usually includes bleach or acid.  Similac uses the hexane method to extract the ingredients but their tests show no residual hexane in the organic baby formula.
  • Earth’s Best Organic Baby Formula is also made with DHA and ARA.  They have also tested their products for traces of hexane residue but were happy to report no such findings.  Earth’s Best offers formulas made with cow milk or soy milk and both are kosher certified.
  • Baby’s Only by Nature’s One was the first organic baby formula in America and has been on the market for over 10 years.  With extremely high standards for their ingredients, Nature’s One has excluded corn syrup and DHA/ARA extract which eliminates the potential hazards of using hexane or other chemicals.  Baby’s Only organic baby formula comes in several varieties such as cow milk, lactose free and soy.
